His closest rival, Richard Rwabuhinga, Kabarole District LCV Chairperson, garnered 14,916 votes and has announced he will run as an independent candidate in the 2026 general elections.

Mugenyi’s victory in the primaries is seen by political analysts as a consolidation of his support within the ruling party structures in Kabarole District, setting the stage for a competitive race in Burahya County.

Notably, Mwanguhya Charles Mpagi, who contested in the previous elections, will not be standing as an independent candidate this time.
